Pre Race Packet Pick Up - Start Finish Line Race Village
Start Finish Line
Being a Packet Pickup Volunteer means you are the first point of contact for our runners. You set the tone for the entire weekend! It’s a fast-paced, high-energy role where you help calm pre-race nerves and get everyone excited to hit the tracks.
Here is exactly what you’ll be doing to get our athletes "track-ready":
?? Your Race-Day Checklist:
Bib & Shirt Distribution: You’ll verify runner IDs, hand out their official race bibs, and make sure they get that soft, 2026 Locomotion finisher shirt in the right size.
The "Swag" Station: Beyond the bib, you’ll be handing out the extra goods—think stickers, sponsor items, and any special pre-race perks.
The Course "Tour Guide": Runners will be nervous! You’ll use the provided course maps to explain the 2-mile paved loop, where the timing mats are located, and where they can find the main aid station.
Canopy & Basecamp Logistics: This is crucial for a smooth event. You’ll instruct runners on where "Main Street" is located and where they are permitted to set up their tents and canopies to ensure we keep the path clear for the race.

Setup - Start Finish Line Race Village
Start Finish Line
The Race Setup Crew are the architects of the event. Before the first whistle blows, you are the ones transforming Camp Jordan into a professional racing circuit. This role is perfect for the "early birds" who love to see the behind-the-scenes magic happen.
Here is how you’ll help us build the tracks for Locomotion 2026:
?? 1. Constructing the Start/Finish Line
This is the heartbeat of the race. Your team will:
Set the Timing Hub: Assist in laying out the timing mats (carefully!) and ensuring the "chute" is clearly defined so runners don't miss a lap.
The Arch: Help inflate or stabilize the start/finish arch—the most photographed spot on the course!
Lead-In Areas: Set up the barricades or flags that guide runners safely back into the "Main Street" village area.
?? 2. Safety & Road Crossing Warnings
Camp Jordan is a public space, and runner safety is our #1 priority:
Crosswalk Guards: Placing "Caution: Runners Ahead" A-frame signs at any point where the loop intersects with park roads.
Hazard Identification: Flagging any uneven pavement or potential trip hazards with high-visibility spray or cones.
Pedestrian Management: Setting up rope lines or tape to keep the general public from wandering onto the active "track."
??? Logistics & Heavy Lifting
Note: This role involves physical activity! You’ll be walking the loop, hammering in stakes, and moving equipment. Wear comfortable shoes and bring work gloves if you have them.
The Reward: You get to see the sun rise over a perfectly prepped course, knowing that every mile recorded is possible because you laid the groundwork.

Tear Down - Start Finish Line Race Village
Start Finish Line
he Tear Down Crew are the unsung heroes of Locomotion. After 24 hours of grit and glory, these are the people who help us "leave no trace" and return Camp Jordan to its pristine state. It’s the final push to close out an incredible weekend.
If you like organized tasks and the satisfaction of a job well done, this is your shift! Here is what you’ll be doing to help us pull up the tracks:
?? 1. Deconstructing the Race Village
The "Main Street" that felt like a city for 24 hours needs to be packed away:
Tent & Canopy Breakdown: Helping staff and remaining runners fold down pop-up tents and pack up chairs.
Equipment Inventory: Stacking crates, folding tables, and ensuring all rental gear is accounted for and ready for transport.
The Aid Station Sweep: Packing away leftover sealed food, emptying water jugs, and cleaning out coolers so they’re ready for the next event.
?? 2. The Final Lap: Course Clearing
This is essentially a "scavenger hunt" for everything we put out on Friday:
Pulling Stakes & Flags: Walking the 2-mile loop one last time to collect all directional arrows, mileage markers, and confidence flags.
Signage Collection: Gathering the "Caution: Runner" A-frames from the road crossings.
Hazard Check: Ensuring all cones and temporary safety tape are removed from the paths.
?? 3. "Leave No Trace" Cleanup
We love Camp Jordan, and we want to be invited back every year! This is our most important task:
Trash Patrol: Scouring the Race Village and the loop for any stray gel wrappers, cups, or debris.
Waste Management: Helping move full trash bags to the park’s main dumpsters.
Lost & Found: Gathering any abandoned gear (jackets, headlamps, water bottles) to be returned to runners.
??? Logistics & Gear:
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Many hands make light work here. We work in teams to lift heavier items like the finish line arch or generators.
Dress for Success: Wear clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty, and bring a pair of work gloves!
